Brush Material
Wire

When fragile touch is needed on the surface and requires aggressive application like deburring and cleaning, Brush Firm provides a wide range of brushes with brush materials consisting of Brass, Phosphor Bronze, Carbon Steel, and Stainless Steel.

Brass

Brass wire is of the highest quality available at Brush Firm, which is not only corrosion resistant but also highly conductive and non-sparking in nature. We manufacture brass brushes with brass wire that are mostly used for material removing and deburring. Out of the 3 wires comprising of brass, stainless steel, and carbon steel, brass is the softest out of them and non-ferrous in nature. When your brush application includes surface like brass or copper, then brass wire brush will be the perfect choice among all. Brass wire also works perfectly for static reduction applications when it is used as a strip brush as it is high conductor of electrical energy.

Some of the most common uses of brass wire brushes are:

  1. Providing an industrial environment with its characteristic of static reduction brush.
  2. To clean metal parts without removing base material.
  3. To clean machines and its various parts without sparking to keep the environment safe and non-hazardous.

Phosphor Bronze

Brush Firm offers their wire brushes with phosphor bronze also. This wire is corrosion resistant and has high fatigue life. The bronze wire used to manufacture our wire brushes have 95% of copper and 5% of tin. Like brass wire, when it got stuck with other metallic surfaces, this also does not generate sparks, which makes it suitable for hazardous environments. Bronze wire also works perfectly for static reduction applications when it is used as a strip brush with brass channel backing as it is high conductor of electrical energy. Various sizes or gauges of bronze wire are offered. For crimped bronze wire, available sizes are .003”, .008”, .010”, .012”, .015”, .020” and for straight bronze wire, available sizes are 0.014”, 0.0204”.

Some of the most common uses of bronze wire brushes are:

  1. Providing an industrial environment with its characteristic of static reduction brush.
  2. To clean metal parts without removing base material.
  3. To clean machines and its various parts without sparking to keep the environment safe and non-hazardous.
  4. To wipe out tenter frame rollers from synthetic fibre plants.

Steel

Steel wire is the most popular and widely used brush wire as it the most economical, have high fatigue life and provides durable cutting action. It is one of the hardest wires of the commonly used brush wires. Steel wire offers to be used in a wide variety of brushing applications and is the most suitable wire to work on steel and iron work pieces. Some of the common applications of steel wire brush are deburring, weld cleaning, surface preparation, rust, oxide removal and many more. Most of the times, steel wire brush is applied, where aggressive action is required as steel wire have high tensile strength that provides the brush higher fatigue life. Steel wire is cheaper and economical than stainless steel wire.

Steel wire brush is not recommended to be used in the following conditions:

  1. Non-sparking environment: steel wire brush should not be used in an environment where sparking is a potential hazard, brass or bronze wire brushes should be considered in such conditions.
  2. Surface like stainless steel or aluminium: Steel Wire brush should not be used on surfaces like stainless steel and aluminium as it will contaminate and leave after rust effect on surface. Instead of steel brush, use stainless steel wire brush to prevent contamination.
  3. Wet environments: for wet environments, Steel Wire brush may get exposed to moisture and get corroded. To prevent this, stainless steel wire brush should be used, as it is corrosion-resistant in nature.

Brush Firm offers its steel wire brushes with the following types of steel wires:

  1. Galvanised steel wire
  2. Brass plated steel
  3. Low Carbon steel Wire
  4. High Carbon steel wire

Synthetic

Brush Firm offers a variety of brushes in synthetic fill materials. Synthetic fill materials include Nylon, Polypropylene, and polyester. Synthetic fibres have high absorption rate and high recovery rate from a bend position, this makes it work perfectly on wet conditions. Synthetic fibres are more economical than natural fibres, due to the fact, they are more popular and are widely used for applications like cleaning, wet scrubbing.

Nylon

Nylon is the most versatile and widely used synthetic fibre. it has high abrasion and bend recovery rate, which makes it durable for various brushing applications. Nylon brush is resistant to most common chemicals and does not allow bacterial growth. Nylon brushes are mainly used for scrubbing and cleaning as it does not make scratches on the surface while moving. Nylon wire also has high absorption rate which make it suitable for both wet and dry conditions as the stiffness reduces temporarily. Brush Firm offers brushes with both crimped nylon and straight nylon. it also comes with two different colours: natural and black. Crimped nylon wire is mostly used in power brushes. However, straight nylon wire is preferred for brush seal applications to increase density of the brush.

Brush Firm manufactures and offers nylon wire brushes in the following formats: wheel brush, cup brush, strip brush, end brush, cylinder brush, scratch brush, twisted in wire brush, conveyer cleaning brush, spiral wound cleaning brush, miniature cup brush, miniature end brush, miniature wheel brush, and shank mounted brush.

Polyester

Polyester fibres have a better abrasion resistance than polypropylene, in addition to this, it has good bend recovery rate, excellent solvent resistance and oxidation resistance at high temperatures. It does not change its characteristics with the change in moisture condition, making it a perfect choice for wet conditions as it has low absorption rate of water. Polyester fibres are less stiff and sunlight resistant. Due to its usability in various applications and better water resistant properties, polyester becomes an economical choice for industries. Brush Firm offers polyester brushes with different gauges of polyester fibres, and an option to choose between crimped wire and straight wire.

Brush Firm manufactures and offers Polyester wire brushes in the following formats: wheel brush, cup brush, strip brush, end brush, cylinder brush, scratch brush, twisted in wire brush, conveyer cleaning brush, spiral wound cleaning brush, miniature cup brush, miniature end brush, miniature wheel brush, and shank mounted brush.

Polypropylene

Best quality of polypropylene fibre is used to manufacture polypropylene wire brushes at Brush Firm. Polypropylene filled brushes are used in a wide range of applications for example scrubbing, dusting, fruit and vegetable washing, brush seals. Brushes filled with polypropylene also have more no. of application as it does not react with lot of acids and solvents. Polypropylene filled brushes helps in cutting down the production costs of the industries served as they are economical than nylon. Polypropylene filled brushes does not absorb wates and provides high stiffness during application. Therefore, polypropylene fibre brushes are used mostly in wet or high moisture conditions, but it does not have good bend recovery rate and get set much easily than nylon. The usability of polypropylene filled brushes for different applications depend on the different types of trims, length, brush type and fill size. Brush Firm provides Polypropylene filled brushes made with crimped fibre or straight fibre, Black or natural colour.

Brush Firm manufactures and offers Polypropylene wire brushes in the following formats: wheel brush, cup brush, strip brush, end brush, cylinder brush, scratch brush, twisted in wire brush, conveyer cleaning brush, spiral wound cleaning brush, miniature cup brush, miniature end brush, miniature wheel brush, and shank mounted brush.

Natural Fibre

Brush Firm provides a wide variety of brushes with natural fibre. Natural fibre has been in service from the past many years to fulfil the needs of various industries. Because of distinct properties like high heat resistance, acid resistance, and durability which are over and above than most recently developed synthetic brush fibres. Natural fibre brushes have been used in the variety of applications such as cleaning and industrial environments.

Horsehair

For applications where synthetic fibre brushes does not give optimum and efficient results, Brush Firm provides a range of brushes with different types and sizes filled with horsehair. Horsehair is mainly used for cleaning, polishing and fine dusting applications. It is collected from mane or tail’s hair. There is an alternative of horsehair in synthetic material, but still, horsehair needs to be considered at the choosing brush because of its distinct properties. Horsehair is most suitable for polishing surfaces and picks up dust excellently without being abrasive. Some of the properties of horsehair are non-conductive, does not burn easily, biodegradable, less electrostatic charge, heat resistant, resilient, soft, and long lasting. Horsehair should be used where scratch free cleaning is required or in high temperatures. Brush Firm has a long history of meeting its clients needs with the perfect brush required for their specific application. Abrasive Nylon

Abrasive nylon is procured by extruding nylon with silicon carbide or aluminium, oxide. Abrasive nylon brushes are available in both silicon carbide and aluminium oxide with a range of filament gauges and lengths. Brushes with abrasive nylon are suitable for edge blending, deburring, surface finishing and can be used without any worry on a wide range of surfaces. Brushes with silicon carbide are most commonly used under the category of abrasive nylon brushes because it is sharper and harder than aluminium oxide. Whereas aluminium oxide brushes are mainly used for finishing on softer metals like plastic, wood, aluminium and stainless steel. Aluminium oxide brushes do not let surfaces like stainless steel or aluminium to contaminate. In a regular wire brush, the thumb rule is to use to do the brushing application, but this is not the case with abrasive nylon brushes, it is abraded from the sides as well as from the tip of the fill material because the grit is spread randomly throughout the fill material. For greater brush effectiveness, it should be used at lower speed and have larger engagement between brush face and work piece. When abrasive nylon filaments are operated at excessive speeds, the brush tips tend to soften or melt, causing streaking of the molten nylon on the work surface. Abrasive nylon brushes are mainly used for:

  • Wheel Brush: when wheel brushes filled with abrasive nylon is applied, it gives linear brushing path for removal of coatings, surface preparation, deburring without any geometrical change of the surface.
  • Cup Brush: abrasive nylon cup brushes help in multi-dimensional reach and brushing action for surface finishing and deburring.
  • End Brush: Using abrasive nylon end brush can give amazing results, because of its unique design to reach tight areas and properties of abrasive nylon to deburr and clean surfaces efficiently.
  • Cylinder Brush: Before coatings or treatments on coiled metals or sheets, Abrasive Nylon cylinder brushes are used for scrubbing these surfaces.
  • Strip Brush: To reduce contamination of the delivered product by debris from above, overhead conveyor rails, including I-beam and enclosed designs, and the chain trolleys used in powder coating and painting operations must be kept clean. Abrasive nylon strip brushes with a custom design can be mounted to clean the moving chain trolley continually or to travel the entire length of the conveyor to clean I-beams or enclosed tracks offline.
  • Tube Brush: Deburring threaded holes and interior surfaces, including cross-drilled holes, is facilitated by the use of power-driven tube brushes packed with abrasive nylon.
